Dense fog on LHHT

Fall 2024 at McConnells Mill

The leaves have started turning. Actually, from the looks of it they’ve been turning for two or three weeks. The way the yellows, reds, and oranges were popping during my recent trip to McConnells Mill, it’s peak fall leaves in Western PA. The fall foliage was vivid during this trip. McConnells Mill is absolutely one of the best places in Western PA to catch fall foliage. This year was no disappointment.

I did not expect rain, at least it wasn’t in the forecast, however, as soon as I got out of the car and to a neat spot on the trail, the rain fell. The rain fell hard, so hard, that huge raindrops were getting in between my lens holder and filter. I took two shots that had a big drop in the photo from rain being on my filter. So I decided to pack up and head back to the car to wait out rain. 45 minutes later and I was back out on the trail hunting for that same spot and found it! It’s been so long since I’ve been out at McConnells Mill and wanted to photograph the iconic covered bridge. The colors just popped with the leaves.

I took to the other side of the trail to look for some other locations and found rapids with a beautiful yellow backdrop of trees. It’s wonderful to visit a place that I’ve been too so many times before, yet can always find something new.
