Dense fog on LHHT

St Peter and Paul Church, pt. 2

From the Balcony

Almost a year and half ago my friends and I explored St Peter and Paul School, read more on that, https://www.slb-photography.net/st-peter-and-paul-parochial-school-abandoned/. On the same property and very prominent is the church. Both locations have been abandoned for over 20 years. We’ve been trying to get together a group of people to explore the church. Last weekend, we finally were able to all get together and go. I knew the church was trashed. Completely trashed! I also knew that there was a fire there last year and some work has been done on the roof, but not since spring of this year. The ways in I knew were still there and open, so in we went. I knew the church was stunning, with stain glass still intact. What I was disappointed to see what how trashed it really was. We spent 4 hours exploring top to bottom. Found some interesting relics. I could only imagine what it would have been like to be a parish member. Unfortunately, these days the alter is wreck. The statues and antiques long gone. Though it was still a sight to see. I mostly roamed around, in the quiet, occasionally hearing one of my friends in another part of the church. It had a calm about it, even though those walls has surely seen their fare share. This is an amazing place, and quite beautiful. I’d love to see it restored to it’s former glory. At this point though, work on the roof would have to be completed, the inside totally gutted, and i’m just not sure there is anyone around who would be willing to make the investment, but I sure hope I am wrong. Until then this will be a not so hidden gem.
