So long and thanks for all the Duck!
The beginning of October ushered in the fall season here in Pittsburgh. It also ushered in a 40-ft rubber duck! The creation was the brainchild of Florentijn Hofman. Since it’s creation the duck has spent time in Europe, Asia, Austria, and Brazil and make it’s US debut right here in Pittsburgh! It was part of an art installation for the Pittsburgh International Festival of Firsts, an arts festival representing performing and visual arts from around the world. Along the way, Pittsburgh gave ‘Duckie’ a giant welcome party. Over 1 million visitors from near and far paid a visit to see Duckie and he also got to share in Pittsburgh’s joy of the Pirates seeing the playoffs for the first time in over 21 years! This past Sunday however, was the last day Duckie sat at The Point. Though there wasn’t a formal party, but visitors from all over still came to see it off. And really who doesn’t love a giant 40-ft rubber duck!
