Las Vegas

Las Vegas is a unique place. There really is no other place like it. Las Vegas blvd, better known as The Strip collects people from all walks of life. Young and old, Rich and poor, locals and tourists alike. Vegas is the big destination for many conferences, mega concerts, and sporting events. I find the contrast of the city interesting. More strip clubs than can be imagined (Hence The Strip) tucked in between massive hotel/casinos. Each one with it’s on glitz and glitter…its own attraction, own show, and last but not least its own claim to fame. I never thought I’d be interested in a city like this. I’ve been there twice now. This time I stopped to study the people. Anywhere is good for people watching. People on the streets dressed up as lovable movie characters taking tips for pics, to the ‘homeless’ begging for money with their creative signs, like the one who said he needed money for kung fu lessons because his wife got a sex change and ran off with his girlfriend. Quite an interesting mix Vegas is and in case you’re a tourist from overseas and maybe missing home just a bit, well there is Paris: Las Vegas. Or maybe you’re from New York and are missing your favorite NY style pizza…go grab a slice from New York, New York, the Vegas version. Maybe you want to go to Rome or step back in time…go check out Caesar’s Palace or the Luxor, walk like an Egyptian, anyone? Anyone? Just maybe you imagine yourself as Foxy Brown from from the 70’s…there is the disco themed Flamingo. How’s all that for excitement? No wonder people come here. Or is it the lure of fame and fortune that brings them in?

This being my second trip. I was determined to take better photo’s this year. Last year’s photos look like typical touristy photos. Guess you can say I got caught up in the lights! So this year once I settled in and started to realize what the city was and what it was for me I had a much easier time. Trick was to focus on just a few areas. I’ve always been fascinated with the lights in Vegas. These massive structures with these amazing lights on them are eye catching! The first night we were there I decided to grab my tripod and go for a 12am walk. I’m pretty sure no one batted an eye at someone walking around with a tripod in hand. I’m sure it’s not the weirdest thing to ever happen. Though I was sure that’d I’d attract some kind of attention! Luckily I didn’t. I was right in the middle of the action shooting from street level. I wanted to capture some of my favorite lights and hey well … I’m a sucker for Paris. But hey, I wouldn’t want to see the light bill though!
