Autumn in Bedford, Pennsylvania

Autumn is coming quickly in Pennsylvania. It’s a the season that signifies the beginning of closure. Leaves changing and falling, temps growing cooler, Gords arriving in the garden to sustain us over the long winter months. Autumn is also a time for reflection.

Autumn is coming quickly in Pennsylvania. It’s a the season that signifies the beginning of closure. Leaves changing and falling, temps growing cooler, Gords arriving in the garden to sustain us over the long winter months. Autumn is also a time for reflection. This is not only true for nature, but it is true for ourselves. A time to simply step back, analyze and accept what we have. It’s also time to start thinking about changes in ourselves. Are we happy? Did we lose something? What lessons can be learned? Sometimes things aren’t as clear as we need them to be at the moment. That’s okay. It’s only natural. Once we truly have to courage to let go, and not be frightened of the truth will we able to come to terms with our fears. It’s not easy. There will be many stops and starts. But to remain on the correct path will show true strength. We have to reach deep down in ourselves to be able to identify what it is we want, and what it is that keeps us from it. The hope is that we recognize the dark space and make the necessary steps to end in the place we want. That’s where the fear can take over and we have such a hard time re-writing our internal tape. Once we do re-wire that tape, we can continue molding ourselves into the happy, healthy, strong person we know we can be.

“Don’t waste yourself in rejection, nor bark against the bad, but chant the beauty of the good.’ -Ralph Waldo Emerson

This shot was take at sunset on the shores of Shawnee Lake. It is a single shot with a polarizing filter. I’ve made some color and contrast adjustments. Shooting sunsets can be challenging. They are also not my norm. I’m used to shooting sunrise, already starting out in the dark makes it perfect for those really long exposures that I love. Sunsets can also be fun to play with some long exposure photography. Keeping in mind your shutter speed will be faster exposing for the sky. I started with speeds around 1/80th of  a second. As the sun started to set,  I started playing with my exposure times. To do this I had a mix of an ND Filter and polarizer. I liked the results. Go out and play with what you have, you might find that it brings some creativity back into your photos.
